Yes, bar charts and figures from publications have copyrights. Three points may be useful:
1. You can put the figure/charts on a powerpoint slide and trace them
2. Use simplified form for the complex images
3. For bar charts, etc. You can use Excel and guess the numbers to re-construct the charts

Dear Professor Kwan,
For the figures that require copyright, I'm sure i 'll have to draw the colour images from the Weinberg 2014, but do the bar charts of the studies also need to be changed as well? Do those have copyright too?
