FNSC6313 Thesis topic (Jeremy Wu)

Dear Professor Kwan,

This is Jeremy. I'd like to ask for some advice regarding my topic for the thesis. I've picked the "Prebiotic effects on gut microbiome" topic, but is it possible for me to tweak this topic a little bit?

I'd like to look more into the effects of Prebiotics on IMMUNITY in the body (however, gut microbiome WILL definitely be involved too since prebiotics affect immunity via altering the gut enviroment as well as microbiome.)

Do you think this is a good topic for me to pursue for my thesis?

Sincerely,
Jeremy

  1. Dear Professor KWAN:
This is Sun Qiu. I have received your email. I already done a few readings about obesity with gut micro-biomes, and I picked the "Targeting gut microbiota in obesity: effects of prebiotics and probiotics" topic. Probiotics drugs are widely used in the treatment of intestinal flora imbalance or obesity cause it have beneficial effects on the host health activity of microorganisms.
There are also many studies present that probiotics may improve the metabolic syndrome induced by high-fat diet through adjusting the gut microbiota structure. Would this topic be appropriate or I still have to narrow the scope of this topic?
Of coures, specific phyla, classes or species of bacteria, or bacterial metabolic activities could be beneficial or detrimental to patients with obesity, could J just choose certain type of bacteria or?
Looing forward to your advice on my topic.
    Sun Qiu
