Accidental answering of all exam questions

Hi Professor Kwan.

This is a Jeremy from your FNSC 5110 class.
Name: WU Jeremy Yong Xin
Student ID: 1155014233

I accidentally answered all the questions, a very big mistake I know. That's why I ran out of time! I don't even know why I did this, might have been because I was nervous. My sincere apologies, I hope you understand.
Would you mind not marking the final question (the D value calculations based on chart 1) please? I have already answered all the other questions to the best of my ability, so I ran out of time for this question. Please only mark those first few choice questions instead of the final big question.

Many thanks for your understanding!

Sincerely,
Jeremy

Re: FNSC6313 Thesis Draft (Jeremy Wu 1155014233)

Hi Professor Kwan,

About the referencing: Sorry, I'll definitely run through my references section and edit them accordingly.
About the scope: I'll probably narrow my scope down to "prebiotic effects on the gut microbiome and how this benefits different aspects of GUT-related Health".
Is that focused enough or do I need to narrow it even further?

Jeremy

Dear Jeremy,

A quick scan of your thesis draft/progress report shows that the reference format has some problems. Please check Professor Cheung's instruction carefully to make sure that you understand the format requirement. The second thing is that the scope is too big. Either you will end up with a thick thesis or you can only mention briefly each topic. Please consider a more focused scope.

Best,

Dear professor Kwan,

I'm not sure if my format is correct, but this is what i've got so far. I've written "pending" for section which are far from complete, and I will continue to add further details based on your feedback.

is it ok if I hand the report in with some of the sections saying "pending" and "briefly describe, etc" underneath, or is that not allowed?

Sincerely,

Jeremy

Re: Thesis progress report

Hi Professor Kwan,

How's my progress report? Is it ok? Are there any areas you think I should change/modify/add?

Jeremy

FNSC6313 - Jeremy Wu: Choosing a more specific thesis topic

Hi Professor Kwan,

After further consideration and study of your powerpoint, I think I've now got a better idea of what you meant by "narrowing" my topic. Previously I couldn't really understand how I needed to narrow the "prebiotic effects on gut microbiome" topic, which lead me to think that "prebiotic effects on microbiome and thus immunity" would be more specific. Now i think I know what I'm supposed to be doing. Please correct me if I'm still wrong though:

I'm planning to look into a few specific prebiotics (e.g. inulin and fructooligosaccarides, etc.) and their effects on certain gut microbes -

1) I might focus on prebiotic effects on pathogenic bacteria and how this can then affect the immune system (still like my earlier immunity idea, but just more specific this time).
OR
2) I might focus on prebiotic effects on probiotic bacteria - maybe lactobacillus and bifidobacteria and how they benefit from prebiotics, and how this ultimately benefits health.

Am I sort of on the right track right now?

Sincerely,
Jeremy

FNSC6313 Thesis topic (Jeremy Wu)

Dear Professor Kwan,

This is Jeremy. I'd like to ask for some advice regarding my topic for the thesis. I've picked the "Prebiotic effects on gut microbiome" topic, but is it possible for me to tweak this topic a little bit?

I'd like to look more into the effects of Prebiotics on IMMUNITY in the body (however, gut microbiome WILL definitely be involved too since prebiotics affect immunity via altering the gut enviroment as well as microbiome.)

Do you think this is a good topic for me to pursue for my thesis?

Sincerely,
Jeremy

The smallest of the URF's (URFA6L), is a 207-nucleotide. The NH-terminal portion of the adenosinetriphosphatase subunit 6 gene has been identified as the animal equivalent of yeast H+-ATPase subunit 8 gene. Functions of the other URFs are still elusive. Immunoprecipitation reactions have proved that URFs 1 through 5 and URF4L encode subunits of a NADH dehydrogenase called complex 1, a complex that has many subunits synthesised in the cytoplasm. The reactions used NADH-ubiquitous oxidoreductase from bovine heart as well as enzyme fractionation studies.

The smallest of the URF's gene was found equal to the yeast H+-ATPase subunit 8 gene. However, the functional significance of the others URF's genes were exclusive.
